EDUCAST, Academy of Culinary Arts and Coffee at Anu Books ( CaAB) organized a panel discussion on the title
“ Badalido Khana ra Batawaran Pariwartan” ( Changing Food and present Change) on February 26, 2023.
Mr. Chiri Babu Maharjan, the Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, one of the panelists emphasized that the consumption of quality food is always related to good health. He added that the Metropolitan City had started a campaign to produce rooftop vegetables during the COVID time and it has impacted positively among citizens. Mr. Maharjan assures us to bring more programs and campaigns which help in climate change mitigation.
The Country Representative of the United Nation Development Program, UNDP Ms. Ayshanie Medagangoda- Labe addressed the discussion and appreciated the effort by various organizations to stimulate such dialogues at the community level. Nepal is blessed with fertile land which produces grain with nutritious micronutrients hence policymakers and Government needs to save those fertile land to produce food as the impact of climate change can be economically heavy among common Nepali people.
Master Chef Santosh Shah, the other panelist of the discussion highlighted that the even harvest season of various crops has changed due to the impact of climate change therefore we need to work together to mitigate such challenges. We need to reflect back to nature and we need to value our blessed fertile land he said.
Mr. Prashant Khanal, the writer of the book Timmur and the cofounder of Raithane Restaurant said that we really need to understand the entire food chain process from farm to table as we discuss food habits and climate change. The livestock farming and methane emission also impact negatively our climate pattern he added.
The Chairman of the Academy of Culinary Arts, Mr. Ashesh Maharjan reminded the importance of Sustainable Development Goals and the commitment from the Private Sector to fulfill such goals and indicators.
He said that “ While economically prospering, we have used nature in many ways and came to this state, and now it is our turn to look after the nature and environment.
Mr. Amir Raj Thapa, the curator of Coffee at Anu Books welcomed everyone and clarified the objective of such collaboration of multiple organizations to stimulate a climate dialogue. The program was one of the collateral events of Photo Kathmandu envisioned by Coffee at Anu books based on planet, climate, and biodiversity.
The program was moderated by one of the Alumni of ACA, Ms. Anaida Nakarmi.
The Academy of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management was established in 2010 providing Diploma in Culinary Arts education course to students. It has produced more than 1000 students and has paved the way for employment. The college provides a Diploma in Culinary Arts( 1 year), BHM ( 4 years), and BBA (2 years education with skills of entrepreneurship and leadership.
