EDUCAST, The Institute of Certified Management Accountants (ICMA) Australia, in a momentous ceremony held in Kathmandu, initiated 66 CMA (Certified Management Accountant) degree students from its Nepal Chapter. Auditor General Maheshwar Kaphle, gracing the event as the acting chief guest, bestowed certificates upon these deserving students, marking the commencement of their professional journeys.
During the ceremony, Acting Auditor General Kaphle, conveyed his hearty congratulations to the newly initiated students and expressed his optimism about their pivotal role in bridging the gap for professional and skilled auditors within Nepal. He highlighted the current challenge of having a limited number of charter accountants in over 6,000 government organizations in Nepal, coupled with a lack of systematic auditing. In this context, CMAs are poised to play a crucial role, and Kaphle, reaffirmed his commitment to offering the necessary support.
Kaphle, praised the initiated students, acknowledging that their induction signifies an enhancement of efficiency in accounting and management practices in Nepal. He commended them, saying, “You have become professional auditors.”
Underlining the significance of proficient accounting in sustaining businesses, Kaphle, emphasized that CMAs must contribute to the vitality of enterprises, given that inadequate financial management can lead to business instability. He commended the students for embracing the challenging role of auditors and expressed his delight at their choice.
Furthermore, Kaphle, highlighted the broader benefits that Nepal stands to gain through its association with ICMA Australia and stressed the importance of government support in nurturing a cadre of professional auditors.
Suraj Vaidya, Vice President of the Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, acknowledged the pivotal role played by ICMA Australia in enhancing the skills and knowledge of Nepali individuals in the fields of education, accounting, and management.
During the event, Kumar Prasad Khatiwada, the regional representative of ICMA Australia for Nepal, expressed pride in introducing globally practiced subjects in accounting and management to Nepal. He commended the initiated students for their specialization in these fields and noted the increasing interest in this course, emphasizing the need to connect potential talents and accounting professionals with the program.
Khatiwada expressed his belief that the availability of the CMA course conducted by ICMA Australia in Nepal will reduce the necessity for Nepali students to study abroad, thanks to the production of intellectually skilled individuals. Foreign speakers from Australia also shared their insights on the CMA program during the event.
Pramila Thapa, one of the initiated students, commended ICMA Australia for contributing to the development of accounting and management skills among Nepalis.
Prior to the convocation ceremony, a two-day workshop explored the effectiveness and significance of CMA education in Nepal. Notable figures such as former Finance Secretary Rameshore Khanal and ICMA experts from India presented working papers on the current status, necessity, effectiveness, and importance of CMA education in Nepal.
