“Transformative Discussions at EduClave 2.0: Shaping Nepal’s Education Landscape”

One Up Solutions, in collaboration with prominent organizations including ECAN as the presenter and in association with British Council IELTS and Grace International, successfully organized EduClave 2.0 in Kathmandu. The event took place on March 18th at the Kathmandu Marriott Hotel from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with a focus on delving into the positive aspects of studying abroad and its broader impact on society.

EduClave 2.0 served as a dynamic forum for policymakers, educators, students, parents, and civil society organizations to come together and address the challenges faced by the education sector. With objectives centered around identifying challenges and opportunities in the realm of abroad education, exploring diverse perspectives and experiences, and promoting collaboration among education stakeholders, the event fostered meaningful discussions and proposed actionable solutions.

The event comprised panel discussions focused on the theme “Exploring the Essence of Higher Education in Nepal: Promotion and Study in Nepal.” The panel included representatives such as Ministry of Education, Science and Technology spokesperson Shiv Prasad Sapkota Prof. Dr. Subarna Lal Bajracharya from Lumbini Buddhist University, Dr. Achyut Wagle, Registrar of Kathmandu University, Prof. Dr. Vinod Kumar Bhattarai, Assistant Dean at Pulchowk Campus – Institute of Engineering, and Rajendra Baral, proposed Educational Consultant Federation Coordinator. The session was moderated by journalist Tikaram Yatri.

During Educlave 2.0, Ministry of Education spokesperson Shiv Prasad Sapkota emphasized Nepal’s aim to become an educational hub through ‘Education Diplomacy’. A panel discussion featuring various educational figures highlighted concerns about Nepali students studying abroad and stressed improving domestic educational quality and policies. Sapkota addressed issues such as policy challenges and the need for reform in examination systems, advocating for a student-centric approach. He expressed gratitude for public pressure to address these issues and proposed creating a separate category for ‘Education Diplomacy’ to enhance efforts in this direction. The Ministry aims to transform Nepal into an educational destination by collaborating with the new minister and enhancing educational infrastructure.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Padam Giri ighlighted at a policy dialogue organized by Nepal Educational Consulting Association that consulting businesses, unlike manpower, don’t require bonds but stress accountability. He acknowledged the need for a separate law to regulate the expanding educational consultancy sector and pledged to discuss journalist Nima Kafle’s query on the matter with experts. Minister Giri assured stakeholders that efforts would be made to address concerns and formulate appropriate policies, emphasizing cooperation between the Ministry of Education and businessmen.

The outputs from EduClave 2.0 included a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in education, particularly concerning studying abroad. The event provided a platform for stakeholders to share experiences, perspectives, and strategies to enhance education access, equity, and quality. Furthermore, it encouraged collaboration and partnership among education stakeholders and identified avenues for innovation and improvement in the education sector.
