EDUCAST, Kathmandu University School of Arts, Department of Languages and Mass Communication, successfully organized an International Seminar on Two Decades of the Sadharanikaran Model of Communication on Jestha 13th. The seminar drew participation from dozens of esteemed scholars from around the world, including Nepal, India, China, America, and Indonesia, who are actively engaged in teaching and research.
Associate Professor Ekku Maya Pun, Dean of the School of Arts at Kathmandu University, had opened the seminar by welcoming all attendees and expressing gratitude for their dignified presence. The program provided a platform for national and international experts to share their insights on the Sadharanikaran Model of Communication, developed by Nirmala Mani Adhikary. This communication model is currently included in the curriculum of many universities worldwide, with Master’s and PhD students also conducting research on it.
The session, themed “Two Decades of the Sadharanikaran Model of Communication and Future Prospects,” commenced with an introduction by Dr. Dinesh Kafle and Trishna Acharya, who also facilitated the event. The segment was moderated by Mr. Raj Kumar Baral, a Ph.D. scholar from the University of Texas, El Paso, USA. Following the introduction, a panel discussion ensued, featuring an esteemed group of panelists. Prof. Dr. Shirish Kashikar, Director of the National Institute of Mass Communication and Journalism in Gujarat, India, participated, along with Prof. Dr. Ujjwal K. Chowdhury, Vice President of the Washington University of Science and Technology in Virginia, USA, who joined online. Other notable panelists included Dr. Chandrabhanu Pattanayak, Director of the Institute of Knowledge Societies in Odisha, India; Dr. Aditya Kumar Shukla, Head of the Institute at Amity School of Communication, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, India; Dr. Shardha Purohit, Associate Professor at Noida International University, India; and Dr. Bhanubhakta Acharya, a faculty member at the University of Ottawa, Canada. The session provided a comprehensive discussion on the evolution and future trajectory of the Sadharanikaran Model of Communication, enriched by the diverse expertise and insights of the panelists.
Professor Dr. KK Agarwal, President of South Asian University and the chief guest of the seminar, commended Kathmandu University for organizing such a timely event. He extended his gratitude to the university and all attendees, highlighting the importance of such academic gatherings.
Other notable contributors included Prof. Dr. Shirish Kashikar, Director of the National Institute of Mass Communication and Journalism in Gujarat, India, who praised the effectiveness of the seminar, and Dr. Shardha Purohit, Associate Professor at Noida International University, who remarked on the program’s fruitful outcomes.
The second session, themed “Sadharanikaran Model of Communication and Multidisciplinary Dynamics,” began with an introduction by Dr. Dinesh Kafle and Trishna Acharya, who also facilitated the session. Mr. Binod Dhungel, a Ph.D. scholar from Kathmandu University School of Arts, served as the moderator. The session featured a panel discussion with distinguished panelists. Prof. Dr. Trishu Sharma, Director of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Manipal University in Jaipur, India, participated alongside Prof. Dr. Ajay Risal from Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences. Joining online were Prof. Dr. Chandrakant Prasad Singh, former Dean of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in New Delhi, India, and Dr. Nibha Sinha from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology in NOIDA, India. Other notable panelists included Dr. Madhav Lamichhane from Nepal Sanskrit University and Dr. Govinda Sharan Upadhyaya from Tribhuvan University in Nepal. This session provided a rich exploration of the Sadharanikaran Model of Communication, emphasizing its multidisciplinary dynamics and the diverse perspectives of the panelists.
Aditya Kumar Shukla, Head of the Institute at Amity School of Communication, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, India, shared his views on the practical applications of the Sadharanikaran Model, noting its relevance and significance in contemporary communication studies.
The seminar concluded with Professor Dr. Bhola Thapa, Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University and the chairperson of the program, expressing his happiness over the successful and grand completion of the event. He thanked all participants for their dignified presence and contributions. The program also featured the distribution of tokens of love and certificates to the participants, marking the end of a memorable and insightful academic event.
