Machhapuchchhre Model United Nations Program Concluded Successfully

EDUCAST, The Machhapuchchhre Model United Nations (MMUN) program concluded on Sunday at Machhapuchchhre IB World School. The three-day event, which commenced on Friday, aimed to provide students with a practical understanding of the United Nations’ operations and the critical global issues it addresses.

Over the course of the program, students were divided into six committees, each focusing on a different global issue. The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) addressed the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, while the United Nations Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) discussed the issue of Jammu and Kashmir. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) examined the rise of vape and e-cigarette use, discussing regulation measures. Concurrently, UN Women (UNWOMEN) focused on the economic empowerment and political participation of women, and the Economic and Financial Committee (ECOFIN) addressed the global debt crisis. Additionally, the International Press (IP) was responsible for reporting and documenting the proceedings.

Throughout the sessions held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, students engaged in extensive discussions and presented well-researched, logical statements. Each committee worked diligently to draft resolutions by the end of the three-day deliberations.

Hom Nath Acharya, the advisor of Machhapuchchhre Model United Nations (MMUN) and principal of the school, highlighted the educational value of the event. “This program is designed to enhance students’ leadership, diplomatic, and public speaking skills,” Acharya stated. “The depth of discussion and the quality of resolutions produced by the students is commendable.”

The closing ceremony, held at the school, featured musical performances and honored the best representatives from various committees. CEO Dr. Binod Prasad Yadav and Principal Hom Nath Acharya presented medals and certificates to outstanding participants.

The MMUN program not only provided students with a platform to develop critical skills but also inspired a deeper understanding of global issues and the workings of the United Nations. The successful conclusion of the event marks a significant step in fostering future leaders who are well-versed in international diplomacy and global cooperation.
