EDUCAST, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Ministry of Social Development, Youth, and Sports (MoSDYS) of Gandaki Province have signed a Record of Discussion (RoD) to establish the Gandaki Institute of Technology. The agreement, signed by Rajendradev Pandey, Secretary of MoSDYS, and Mooheon Kong, KOICA Nepal Country Director, was witnessed by Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey.

KOICA will invest USD 9 million in the project, which is set to commence in 2025 and run for five years. The initiative will be implemented in collaboration with Gandaki Technical Education and Vocational Academy (GTEVTA).

Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey also inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for the GTEVTA building at Fedikhola, accompanied by MoSDYS Minister Bindu Kumar Thapa, KOICA officials, and local leaders.

The project aims to produce a skilled workforce aligned with Nepal’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) policy and the 15th National Plan. It focuses on addressing domestic and global labor demands, particularly in the construction industry, to boost employability and economic growth.

KOICA plans to construct a 4,630 m² technical institute, including classrooms, workshops, and dormitories, equipped with modern facilities. It will also provide technical guidance, career service packages, and short-term training programs tailored to local needs.

Chief Minister Pandey emphasized the project’s role in economic prosperity by producing a competent workforce, while KOICA Country Director Kong highlighted its focus on empowering youth, women, and disadvantaged groups.

Since 1991, KOICA has supported Nepal in health, education, IT, and agriculture, continuing to strengthen bilateral ties and promote sustainable development.
