Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle Appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University

    EDUCAST, Prof. Dr. Achyut Prasad Wagle has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Kathmandu University (KU). His appointment was made today by Prime Minister and Chancellor KP Sharma Oli, in accordance with Section 13 (4) of the Kathmandu University Act, 2048.

    Dr. Wagle was selected from a shortlist of three candidates recommended by the Search and Recommendation Committee formed for the selection of the new Vice-Chancellor. The committee comprised Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, Dr. Arjun Karki, and Janardan Nepal. The position became vacant after the tenure of the previous Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Bhola Thapa, ended on January 20.

    Born in 1968 in Banepa Municipality of Kavrepalanchok, Dr. Wagle has had a long association with Kathmandu University. Prior to his appointment, he was serving as the Acting Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of the university. He has also held key academic positions, including Assistant Dean at the KU School of Management, Head of the Science Department, and Adjunct Professor.

    Dr. Wagle holds a PhD in Economics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. He completed his MSc from the University of Birmingham, UK, and an MA from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.

    Apart from his academic contributions, Dr. Wagle is a well-known columnist for national newspapers and has served as a Press Advisor to the Prime Minister as well as an Advisor to the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. His research focuses on business, environment, regional economics, financial federalism, and entrepreneurship.

    The tenure of the Vice-Chancellor at Kathmandu University is four years. With his extensive experience in academia and policy advisory roles , Dr. Wagle is expected to lead KU towards new academic and institutional advancements.
