Launch of Nepal Food and Feed Industry Licensing System (NeFFILS) by Department of Food Technology and Quality Control

EDUCAST, The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DTFQC) has taken a significant step towards streamlining food safety regulations with the launch of the Nepal Food and Feed Industry Licensing System (NeFFILS). The online platform was officially unveiled on Monday by Jwala Kumari Sah, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development.

Minister Sah highlighted the government’s commitment to e-governance initiatives, emphasizing its role in promoting transparency, efficiency, and a contactless approach to public services as outlined in the 2081-82 fiscal year budget statement. She expressed confidence that the online system would expedite service delivery for consumers.

The launch coincides with the upcoming celebration of World Food Hygiene Day (June 19th – 25th, 2081). Minister Sah emphasized the importance of food hygiene and announced a series of week-long programs to raise awareness during this period.

“This online system is a testament to the department’s ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility and good governance in service delivery,” Minister Sah stated.  She explained that the new system aligns with the provisions of the Food Act (2023) and Food Regulations (2027), which mandate DTFQC and its branches to recommend food industry registrations and license issuance/renewal for food production, sales, distribution, storage, and processing entities.

The Nepal Food and Feed Industry Licensing System was developed with the technical expertise of Bibhuti Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Ashok Khanal, CEO of Bibhuti Solutions, expressed optimism that the online platform will significantly reduce the need for in-person visits, allowing for a more convenient user experience.

Dr. Deepak Kumar Kharal, Secretary of Agriculture and Livestock Development, stressed the department’s core responsibility of ensuring food and feed hygiene.  Similarly, Dr. Matina Joshi Vaidhya, Director General of DTFQC, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the online system’s potential to expedite service delivery and ensure its effectiveness.

The Nepal Food and Feed Industry Licensing System marks a positive step towards modernizing food safety regulations in Nepal. This initiative is expected to improve transparency, efficiency, and accessibility for food businesses operating in the country.
