Disaster Strikes Bhotekoshi Corridor: Over 150 Dead as ECAN Cancels Anniversary to Lead Relief Efforts

EDUCAST, The Educational Consultancy Association of Nepal (ECAN) has officially announced the postponement of its 30th ECAN Day Celebration in response to the devastating flash floods and natural disasters hitting the Bhotekoshi corridor and surrounding regions, including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Gorkha, and Chitwan.

Originally scheduled for August 29, 2026 (Bhadra 13, 2083) at Hotel Everest, Kathmandu, the flagship anniversary event has been put on indefinite hold. ECAN stated that the severe human and material toll requires prioritizing direct humanitarian service, rescue, and rehabilitation over celebratory events.

To support immediate rescue operations, ECAN has pledged an initial relief package totaling NPR 1,501,000:

• NPR 1,001,000 allocated directly from the central ECAN fund.

• NPR 500,000 contributed jointly by the executive committee officers and members.

This complete seed amount will be handed over to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund via government-designated channels.

In a statement signed by General Secretary Bhabanath Humagai, ECAN issued a call to action to all member organizations, educational consultants, partner universities, colleges, international education providers, and stakeholders to contribute to the national relief initiative. The association emphasized that all collected funds will be managed with full transparency and directed toward rebuilding lives and providing immediate succor to affected communities.
