EDUCAST, Nepal – In a heartwarming ceremony held on Tuesday, Australian Ambassador to Nepal, Her Excellency Felicity Volk, awarded medals upon individuals with cerebral palsy who actively took part in a community sports initiative generously funded by the Australian Government. This commendable event was orchestrated by the Association of Nepalese Alumni from Australia (ANAA) in partnership with the Self-Help Group for Cerebral Palsy (SGCP).
Approximately 50 children and adults with cerebral palsy graced the occasion with their participation, further underscoring the significance of promoting social inclusion in sports and society at large. Ambassador Volk reiterated that advancing social inclusion ranks high on the Australian Government’s agenda, both within its borders and in its collaborative efforts worldwide.
Ambassador Volk eloquently expressed the Australian Government’s unwavering commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities to ensure they can lead fulfilling, joyful, and productive lives. This commitment extends not only to domestic policies but also resonates within international forums, with Australia actively championing these values at the United Nations and through hands-on collaboration with organizations like SGCP and ANAA.
The Australian Ambassador extended her heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Rajuna Singh, an Australia Awards alumni, and ANAA President Ananta Poudel for their valuable roles in organizing this event and advocating for the principles of social inclusion.
Ambassador Volk also emphasized the pivotal role that sports play in education and underscored the need for it to be accessible, safe, and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of their abilities. Inclusivity in sports nurtures a sense of belonging, community, and capability, promoting positive social, psychological, and health outcomes. Moreover, it serves as a powerful tool for eradicating societal stigmas while simultaneously nurturing a stronger sense of community spirit.
