Pakistan Marks 80th Independence Day in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu organized a flag-hoisting ceremony at the Chancery on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day of Pakistan. Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal, H.E. Mohammad Aamir Khan, unfurled the national flag amid the presence of members of the Pakistani community, Nepali friends, Embassy officials and their families.

The ceremony commemorated the historic struggle for the creation of Pakistan and paid tribute to the sacrifices of the leaders and people of the Pakistan Movement.

In his message on the occasion, President of Pakistan H.E. Asif Ali Zardari said that August 14 is a day to remember the sacrifices that made Pakistan possible and to pay tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the leaders and workers of the Pakistan Movement. He emphasized that independence is not only a historic achievement but also a responsibility.

The President highlighted Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue and promoting de-escalation in the region, noting that the country has utilized its communication channels, geographical position and diplomatic capital to encourage dialogue at a time when wider conflict could have serious consequences for the region and the world.

Prime Minister of Pakistan H.E. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, said that Pakistan’s journey toward national development and prosperity continues despite the challenges along the way. He paid tribute to the country’s armed forces for their courage and professionalism in defending the nation.

The Prime Minister also highlighted Pakistan’s growing role in regional affairs and its commitment to peace. He said lasting peace in South Asia depends on a diplomatic resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions, international law and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H.E. Mohammad Ishaq Dar said Pakistan had made significant progress in diverse fields since independence, guided by the principles of unity, faith and discipline. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity while remaining committed to international law, responsible statecraft and regional peace.

He also paid special tribute to Pakistan’s Armed Forces, police and paramilitary forces for their courage, professionalism and continued contribution to national security.

Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Mohammad Aamir Khan paid tribute to the historic struggle of 1947 and the sacrifices of Pakistan’s founding generation. He highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts toward reducing tensions in West Asia and their broader positive impact.

Ambassador Khan reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace and progress, stressing that the nation would remain united in confronting challenges. He also expressed Pakistan’s readiness to further strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between Pakistan and Nepal, building on their long-standing civilizational links, historic relations and shared values.

The ceremony concluded with renewed emphasis on Pakistan’s commitment to peace, stability, cooperation and stronger bilateral relations with Nepal.
