Bangladesh Contributes $1 Million to Nepal’s Disaster Relief Fund

EDUCAST, The Government of Bangladesh has contributed $1 million to the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund of the Government of Nepal. The aid supports ongoing relief, rehabilitation, and humanitarian efforts following the devastating floods and landslides caused by the Bhotekoshi flood disaster in Nepal.

Humayun Kabir, Bangladesh’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, handed over a letter addressed by Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah. The letter was presented to Ghanashyam Bhandari, Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh. Earlier on September 1, Minister of State Kabir signed a condolence book at the Nepali Embassy in Dhaka to express sorrow over the disaster. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman also sent a message to Prime Minister Balendra Shah, conveying solidarity with the Government and people of Nepal and offering condolences to the victims.

Additionally, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep grief and sympathy regarding the loss of lives and property, extending his condolences through President Ram Chandra Poudel. On August 27, the Bangladesh Parliament passed a condolence resolution expressing grief for the flood victims and those missing. Parliamentarians observed a minute of silence and offered prayers for the departed souls, while urging the Bangladeshi government to take immediate steps to provide necessary disaster assistance to Nepal. On the same day, Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman spoke over the phone with his Nepali counterpart, Sishir Khanal. During the conversation, he assured that Bangladesh was ready to extend all possible assistance to Nepal and discussed avenues to expand humanitarian support.
