Embassy of India Expresses Condolences Over Fatal Nepal Flash Flood, Reaffirms Full Relief and Rescue Support

EDUCAST, In an official statement released during Nepal’s national day of mourning, the Embassy of India in Kathmandu expressed its deepest condolences over the devastating loss of lives and widespread destruction caused by the catastrophic flash flood on August 26, 2026. The disaster, triggered by a glacial lake outburst along the Bhote Koshi River near the Nepal-China border, severely impacted local Nepalese communities as well as foreign citizens, including Indian nationals. Reaffirming the strong bond between the two neighbor nations, the Embassy emphasized that India stands in full solidarity with Nepal during this time of tragedy and remains committed to aiding ongoing search, rescue, and relief operations.

From the very onset of the crisis, India mobilized immediate ground support and high-level diplomatic coordination to assist Nepalese authorities. Indian disaster response networks and ministries worked alongside the Ministry of External Affairs and local officials in Nepal to track affected areas across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and downstream corridors. The Indian Government also placed border states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh on high alert, deploying National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to handle potential downstream surges in shared river systems like the Trishuli and Gandak.

Rescue and humanitarian assistance details were swiftly established to address emergency needs and locate stranded individuals.
