Sri Lanka Extends USD 1 Million Humanitarian Assistance to Nepal

EDUCAST, The Government of Sri Lanka has provided USD 1 million in financial assistance to Nepal to support relief, recovery, and humanitarian efforts following the devastating floods and landslides triggered by the Bhote Koshi River on August 26, 2026. The natural disaster caused significant loss of life and widespread destruction, particularly across the Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts.

The official handover fulfilled a commitment made under the direction of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. In a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Nepal, Her Excellency Ruwanthi Delpitiya, formally presented the contribution to Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Honorable Shisir Khanal. During the meeting, Ambassador Delpitiya expressed deep sympathy and solidarity on behalf of Sri Lanka’s government and people.

She offered heartfelt condolences to families who lost loved ones in the floods and landslides. The provided aid is earmarked to support affected communities and accelerate ongoing recovery and rehabilitation operations led by the Government of Nepal.The assistance underscores the enduring friendship and mutual cooperation between Nepal and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka reaffirmed its commitment to standing alongside Nepal during times of crisis and pledged to maintain ongoing dialogue to explore further avenues of support for post-disaster recovery.
