WHO Regional Director Dr. Balkhy Calls on Foreign Minister Khanal

EDUCAST, World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Dr. Hanan H. Balkhy, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

During the meeting, Dr. Balkhy expressed deep condolences to those affected by Nepal’s recent devastating floods and praised the Nepalese government’s leadership in response efforts. She also presented her candidacy, vision, and priorities for the post of WHO Director-General, requesting Nepal’s support for her nomination. Foreign Minister Khanal expressed appreciation for the solidarity extended by Saudi Arabia during these challenging circumstances.

He highlighted the rising health risks and disease burdens facing vulnerable developing nations like Nepal due to climate change, emphasizing the need for international cooperation and resilient health systems to tackle climate-induced health challenges. Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Nepal, Fahad Mohammad A. Munaikhir, and Deputy Chief of Mission, AbdulRahman K. Ghoshom, were also present at the meeting.
