St. Xavier’s College, Kathmandu, Nepal – The International Tribunal on Evictions convened on February 14, 2024, amidst a distinguished gathering of activists, legal experts, and advocates at the prestigious
World Social Forum 2024. This significant assembly at St. Xavier’s College represented a collective response to the urgent issue of unjust evictions that continued to afflict communities across Asia. With unwavering solidarity and a commitment to compassionate action, the tribunal was poised to defend the rights of the marginalized, offering hope to those who had been forcibly displaced from their
homes and communities. At its core, the gathering embodied a steadfast resolve to amplify the voices of the silenced and to address the systemic injustices inherent in eviction practices.

Leading the discourse were esteemed panelists renowned for their expertise and dedication to justice: Cesare Ottolini, who represented the International Alliance of Inhabitants; Raju Chapagain, a distinguished constitutional and human rights lawyer; Medha Patkar, an esteemed activist hailing from the Narmada Bachao Andolan; and Agustin Territoriale, a distinguished human rights lawyer from
Argentina and Paolo de Stefani, Professor University of Padua, Italy.

Their collective wisdom and commitment underscored the gravity of the challenges at hand and offered a beacon of hope for meaningful change. Joining the panel were distinguished guests whose presence further enriched the discourse and highlighted the global significance of the tribunal’s deliberations: Sister Tascila Nicholas, who represented GSIF Nepal; Dharma Raj Joshi, an esteemed representative from Habitat for Humanity; Bikash Dhungana, a respected human rights lawyer; and Prafulla Samanta, an eminent environmentalist.
