EDUCAST, Australia’s Ambassador to Nepal, HE Felicity Volk, inaugurated a poignant photo exhibition titled “Coming Home” today, marking a celebration of Nepalis who have returned from Australia to enrich their local communities and contribute to Nepal’s prosperity.

Conceived and crafted by Australian artist and documentary photographer, Jo Rankine, with support from the Australian Embassy, “Coming Home” offers a compelling narrative through photographs and interviews. The exhibition chronicles the journeys of Nepali alumni who pursued education in Australia, either as privately funded students or prestigious Australia Awards scholars, and have since returned home to become skilled entrepreneurs, community workers, chefs, designers, and more.

Jo Rankine, currently pursuing a Bachelor of Craft and Design at Kathmandu University, expressed her vision behind “Coming Home,” stating, “The exhibition invites viewers to ponder the potential of a brighter future for Nepal and its people. It seeks to shift perceptions surrounding the phenomenon of young people leaving the country, showcasing the positive impacts of returning home after studying and working abroad, and honoring the dedication and courage of those who choose to come back.”

She emphasized, “The stories showcased in the exhibition, and the countless others across Nepal, serve as a testament that returning home from abroad does not signify failure but heralds new avenues to explore one’s potential.”

Ambassador Volk echoed Rankine’s sentiments, expressing her hope that the exhibition would inspire other young Nepalis contemplating study and work overseas to consider Nepal as their ultimate destination. She emphasized Australia’s admiration for Nepali students and communities while stressing the pivotal role of talented professionals in Nepal’s long-term prosperity and well-being.

Volk remarked, “I celebrate the eleven individuals whose endeavors, resilience, and accomplishments are spotlighted in ‘Coming Home.’ Their narratives serve as beacons of inspiration for others to acquire global training, experience, and networks, and subsequently channel their expertise back into Nepal.”

The exhibition will be showcased in outdoor venues at Maharani Chowk, Patan from May 9th to May 16th, and at Bhugol Park, New Road from May 17th to May 23rd.
