United Mission to Nepal (UMN) Mobilizes Emergency Relief and Child-Focused Support for Disaster-Affected Families in Gajuri, Dhading

EDUCAST,  Following severe flash floods and landslides across central Nepal, a dedicated relief team from the United Mission to Nepal (UMN) reached temporary displacement shelters in Gajuri Rural Municipality, Dhading District, to deliver target assistance.

The deployment forms part of UMN’s overarching “Nepal Flood Emergency Relief 2026” response, designed to deliver immediate humanitarian aid to over 1,000 vulnerable families severely impacted across Dhading and neighboring Nuwakot districts.

Rapid Emergency Response and Relief Infrastructure

Following the onset of the disaster, UMN activated emergency support mechanisms and established strategic relief operations leveraging historical partnerships in Dhading. Operating through trusted local partner organizations and community networks, UMN launched rapid needs assessments to streamline distribution alongside local municipal authorities.

Since the start of the emergency response, UMN’s assistance framework has spanned several key pillars:

• Direct Emergency Supplies: Procurement and distribution of immediate survival essentials, including staple food rations, clean drinking water filtration, heavy-duty tarpaulins for temporary shelter, and warm blankets.
• Hygiene and Health Protocols: Provision of sanitation packs, hygiene kits, and basic medical support to prevent waterborne illnesses within temporary shelters.
• Funding and Financial Support: Financial mobilization through global appeals via the UMN Support Trust, generating direct donations to fund relief kits, emergency procurement, and community rehabilitation grants.

Bringing Comfort and Play to Displaced Children in Gajuri

While initial relief phases prioritized emergency survival needs, UMN’s recent visit to Gajuri Rural Municipality centered heavily on addressing the emotional well-being and psychosocial needs of young children residing in temporary shelters.

Alongside essential household commodities, the relief team brought targeted child-support packages:

• Toys and Plush Items: Delivered to bring comfort, security, and emotional stability to children coping with sudden displacement.
• Board Games and Puzzles: Distributed to encourage interactive play, group engagement, and social connection within shelter spaces.
• Educational Supplies: Notebooks, stationery, and drawing tools aimed at maintaining continuous learning habits while regular local schooling remains interrupted.

Amid the ongoing uncertainty of life in temporary shelters, seeing the children’s faces light up as they received the toys and games brought a heartwarming moment of relief to families and frontline workers alike.
