Sri Lanka Extends US$ 1 Million Assistance to Disaster-Hit Nepal

EDUCAST,  The Government of Sri Lanka has announced a grant of US$ 1 million in humanitarian financial assistance to support Nepal following devastating floods and landslides that caused severe loss of life, widespread displacement, and extensive infrastructure destruction across several districts.

According to an official media release issued on August 27, 2026, by Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka directed the government to provide emergency funds to assist immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation efforts. President Disanayaka expressed deep sorrow over the tragic casualties and conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Sri Lankan government and its people to the victims’ families and affected communities.

Reflecting the long-standing bilateral friendship and diplomatic solidarity between the two South Asian nations, Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath reached out directly to Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal via telephone. Minister Herath conveyed Sri Lanka’s unwavering support and readiness to collaborate closely with Nepali authorities throughout the emergency response. The financial relief aims to bolster ongoing rescue operations, provide basic necessities to displaced families, and assist in rebuilding critical local infrastructure damaged by the natural disaster.

The Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry affirmed that Colombo will remain actively engaged with the Nepalese government to explore additional avenues for technical and humanitarian aid as recovery operations progress.
