The EU allocates €2 million in humanitarian aid to support victims of flash flood in Nepal

EDUCAST, Flood Relief In response to devastating flash floods in Nepal that have claimed over 300 lives, the European Union has announced €2 million in emergency humanitarian aid to support affected communities. The funding will deliver immediate relief, including food, healthcare, clean water, sanitation, and shelter.

This emergency allocation adds to the nearly €3 million provided to Nepal earlier this year for disaster preparedness. EU-funded humanitarian partners already on the ground began mobilizing immediately after the disaster, distributing prepositioned emergency shelter materials and relief items to isolated families.

To reinforce relief operations, the EU is deploying its Rapid Response Coordinator for Asia and has activated the Copernicus satellite mapping service to assist local emergency teams with real-time geographic data of the flooded regions. Highlighting the gravity of the disaster, EU Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, stated: “Roads washed away. Villages cut off. Families searching for missing loved ones. The flash floods in Nepal have shattered communities already rebuilding from past disasters. The EU stands with them, allocating €2 million to bring urgent healthcare, food, water & shelter.”
