Human Rights Leaders and NHRC Urge Urgent Action on Climate Justice and Human Rights

EDUCAST, A national dialogue program titled “Climate Justice and Human Rights” was held at the Alphabeta Complex in New Baneshwor, organized jointly by the Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC), National Human Rights and Social Justice Forum (Human Rights Alliance – HRA), Children as Zone of Peace National Campaign (CZOP), and Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal (JCYCN).

The formal program was emceed by Tilottam Paudel, General Secretary of the Human Rights Alliance. The session commenced on a solemn note with the playing of the National Anthem, followed by a one-minute moment of silence to pay tribute to martyrs and advocates of human rights and environmental justice.

Addressing the gathering, Navaraj Sapkota, Joint Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Nepal, alongside INSEC Chairman Bijaya Raj Gautam and HRA Chairman Bidur Subedi, highlighted that climate change is no longer merely an ecological issue, but a core human rights crisis. Joint Secretary Sapkota underscored the NHRC’s commitment to integrating a rights-based approach into national climate strategies. Speakers emphasized that vulnerable populations—particularly children, youth, and marginalized communities—bear the disproportionate brunt of climate-induced disasters, calling for urgent policy interventions and collective global action to secure climate justice.
